ABOUT

Welcome to PitchSpoon, I hope you enjoy it.  I created this site as there are two things I find myself doing more than anything else, going to music gigs and restaurants. I love music and try to go to gigs as often as possible, equally I enjoy eating out. If I am taking the time to do these things, spend money on these things and subsequently to ensure I am being productive I thought writing this blog and reviewing these things would be a good thing for me to do. I will try to make the reviews quite personal and unique in an attempt to make it more entertaining and interesting.

A bit more background of who I am and why I am doing this, starting with food. I have found myself going to a few Michelin star restaurants over the years which started with my birthday few years ago (quite a few years ago now). It was just something I wanted to do. Since then and discovering the set lunch options, making this venture a bit more affordable, it has become a little bit of a thing. I am also lucky enough to have some good friends to go with. It is still not cheap and I was thinking about the cashish I spend on this posh nosh and all the other times I eat out and spend money on food so I thought why not write about it.

My dad was into food too and ran numerous catering businesses and restaurants so I grew up with food and as a family we often ate out in nice places. My mum was a good cook and I always had good food at home. I eat OK these days but I am a bit  lazy in the kitchen and not much of a chef. This is basically a little shout out to my pops and my moms as well as a little dig at my own cooking abilities although I make a mean beans on toast, cooking each bean individually and to perfection.

For Michelin starred restaurants I use the pants systems. I can’t remember why it’s called that but it takes into account, ambiance, decor, service, food, price and of course the toilets. Please click this link to open up the spreadsheet Michelin Ratings.

As for music gig reviews, the background there is I love music. I play a few instruments and have done for a number of years and although I am not a virtuoso, I still love it. This might sound wanky but music is a really great art form as you can make connections to so many different moments, to people or to the surroundings in your life. I am not sure I know anyone who does not like some kind of music and has made some connection. I have been going to gigs for years too, so just like eating out, with the time dedicated to this activity, money spent on it and the passion I have for it I thought why not start to review the gigs I go to as well. Maybe folks might be interested and even if they are not, I am going to do it anyway.

I will be mainly focused on Brighton as I currently live there but any gig, music festival or restaurant I go to I will endeavour to write about.

The end….. or is it, it is.
